Maybe they have never personally experienced something as serious as cancer. There are a lot of misconceptions about how amzing alternative treatments are. Maybe this person buys into that hype.

Answer:
Most thyroid cancers are very curable. In fact, the most common types of thyroid cancer (papillary and follicular) are the most curable. In younger patients, both papillary and follicular cancers can be expected to have better than 97% cure rate if treated appropriately. Both papillary and follicular cancers are typically treated with complete removal (surgery) of the lobe of the thyroid which harbors the cancer, PLUS, removal of most or all of the other side. The bottom line, most thyroid cancers are papillary thyroid cancer, and this is one of the most curable cancers of ALL cancers that humans get. As we often tell our patients, if you must choose a type of cancer to have, papillary cancer would be your choice. Treat it correctly and the cure rate is extremely high!
Answer:
I agree with luke.
As he has said, majority of thyroid cancers are PAPILLARY in nature and they have high cure rate.
Why do this have a high cure rate?
1. Surgeon removes most of the thyroid gland and the surrounding lymph nodes where the cancer is likely to be draine.
2. Then the patient is given radioiodine. When the surgery is done, there may be some cancer cells left in the body. These cells are taken care of by radio iodine.
3. Even after that, some cancer may be left behind. PAPILLARY cancer of thyroid has a property that if most of the cancer is removed then there is a chance that the remaining cells may disappear. This has a link to no. 4 reason.
4. After removal of thyroid cancer, u must have seen that the patient have to take thyroxine supplement life long. This supplement is given at the highest possible range. This helps for the thyroxine hormone to work as in a normal person and most IMPROTANTLY in a cancer patient it suppresses TSH HORMONE.
Believe me, if TSH level can be kept at a minimil possible level, then a remaining thyroid (papillary) cancer will remain in body without growing for nearly the life time of the patient.
Yu need to visit ur doc and get examined and check ur TSH level and Thyroglobulin level every 6 months for first 3 years and then yearly.
These are the reasons, my brother/sister, one should think that thyroid cancer is not a sad moment.
