Answer:
why do Dr's, Firemen/women, and Cops smoke, knowing all the things it does ???
Answer:
Addiction. Cigs are hard to put down. Its not just the chemical addiction. That is actually pretty easy if you put your mind to it.
Instead it is the psychological addiction. For most smokers, smoking is a mindless habit. There is also addiction in the physcial actions of holding cig, bringing cig to mouth, taking hit, inhaling, and exhaling.
A lot of smokers have been smoking for years. It is hard to quit something you are so psychological addicted to. Thats why a lot of times other sources of nicotine dont work, like gum or patches. Its not all about the chemical dependancy.

Answer:
Nicotine is more addictive than heroin. That's why.
Answer:
Nicotine is a highly addictive drug found in tobacco and is a major component of cigarette smoke. This drug stimulates the brain reward system activated during pleasurable activities in a manner similar to that of most other addictive drugs. People smoke to feed their nicotine addiction but simultaneously inhale hundreds of carcinogens, noxious gases, and chemical additives that are a part of cigarette smoke. These components are responsible for the multiple health consequences of smoking.

Answer:
because nicotine is addictive.
My uncle used to smoke 50 a day, since he was the age of 25 he got diagnosed with emphysema at the age of 50 he didn't stop until a week after diagnosis, he no longer smokes as even a cigarette binge could probably trigger cancer.
on the other hand my great aunt died of lung cancer 2 years ago she was 70 and lived a full life, but never gave up despite diagnoses of emphysema and other evil smoking related nasties. Smoking is TERRIBLE but it's not that the people that do it are bad, it's because of the nicotine that drives them to smoke.
So your friends dad is being courageous by trying to quit, but once he finally does he is going to get an intense urge to smoke because of 0.8 mg of nicotine
Answer:
My dad had a very treatable/curable throat cancer. He took radiation and a little chemo and never quit smoking. He ended up having to have a hole cut in his throat, and it couldn't heal b/c he was still smoking. He ended up drowning in his own blood in the hospital.
Just like a heroin addict picking heroin over food, a nicotine addict sometimes picks cigarettes over his life. Words can't describe how sad this is to me.
