Palliatives are better known as comfort measures. There are all kinds of palliative measures that can be taken, from medically proven measures, such as massage, to spiritual medicines, such as Reiki.

The nice thing about palliative measures is that many of them, if nothing else, do offer a very strong placebo affect.

Do not discount the value of alternative medicines, especially in the final stages.

If the cancer has reached a stage that is either no longer treatable with any possibilty of a cure or remission or is non-treatable to begin with,hospice care should be considered. The patient is given around the clock care for as long as he/she lives,as much pain meds as he/she needs to be pain -free as well as emotional care.

Why not use some therapeutic herbal medicines instead of palliatives? It would be best to consult a naturopath, herbalist or TCM (acupuncturist/chinese medicine).

Many herbal medicines have been clinically trialed in various cancers, and there is a lot of empirical knowledge about others.
