In my opinion, smoking cigarettes and actually enjoying life, is worth an untimely death down the road.

My aunt died of cancer at age 54. Never smoked a cigarette in her life.

My Great Grandfather smoked cigarettes since he was 15 years old. He is now 80 and is in great condition.

I comprehend that this is only one scenario, but who cares really!?

All of these anti-smoking sheep really piss me off. If we want to like ourselves, let us! We dont go around telling you how bad cell phones are for you, or how fat you’re and that you smell like bacon (about the ashtray line)…

Thats all i have to say. Thank you.

Dude i hate to rock the proverbial boat but what you just stated is absolute bullshit! and i'll explain why.

Lung cancer is the worlds leading cause of cancer death and fact is 99% of lung cancers are caused by cigerette smoke. Ok as a doctor i hear stories like your relatives' all the time, and trust me for every 80 yr old smoker there are 100 with inoperable tumours hooked up to oxygen dying slowly. Also the fact that smoking reduces life by 7 years is true HOWEVER thats just an average! people don't realise there’s a huge range i.e. the individual that gets cancer in their late 40's has lost 35 years of life which is just averaged out for the statistics.

Again lets speak quality of life. I'm talking facts here btw. Sense of smell reduced, appetite reduced, libido reduced, fitness markedly reduced, life expectancy reduced, major organ function reduced but hey you won't notice how fit you could have been so puff away pretending like you're not being affected. Then there's the cost, you can do your own math but im sure you'd be a few hundred dollars/pounds richer per year - sounds like a holiday to me. Then there are the symptoms, angina (painful) even though it might not kill you, stroke again might not kill you but will definately ruin your life, heart attacks, please when you're going through one just say “yeh it hurts like hell but i'd rather be going through this then passing in my sleep peacefully in ten years time”. Increases wrinkles, Your risk increases for each single cancer there is fact and remember 1 in 3 people get cancer - fact. It reduces your response to most therapies so non smokers are more apt to survive all other diseases, fact.

Also fair point you’ve made (no sarcasm this time), it is your life. However its people like me that have to pick up the pieces when you've ruined it. The cost of treating smokers is a huge strain on the NHS so we'll stop complaining to you when we stop paying for your treatment, it's called social responsibility! Lets state you live in america and its your insurance will cover it, well then enjoy the increased premiums! And yes the same goes to morbidly obese and drug abusers. But we know you’ve a problem, you don't have the will power to halt even if you wanted to, its a weakness so no one is condeming you desperately trying to convince you its worth giving up. But yeh if none of that bothers you at all breathe deeper my friend (those cancers will kill you quicker so you won't have to die slow).

And lastly, trust me: your family definately doesnt think you smoking is worth your death ;)

All I have the ability to say as an ex nurse,is having seen a lady in her 60's crawling around the ward on her hands and knees, gasping for every breath, saying 'I wish I'd never smoked'…Embarrassing, degrading completely unnecessary!!!

Answer:
Well - Let´s all be nice to smokers. They don´t live so long.

Answer:
Ok. And we care because?

Answer:
Nice rant. As long as you keep your smoking outside, and away from your children, I will never say a thing about it.

I know what its like to be a smoker, I know what its like to really enjoy that cig, I know what its like to crave one and cant have it. But that still doesnt give you the right to expose everyone else to your smoke. I can sit in the next booth at the resturaunt and eat the entire buffet, and other than the buffet being forced to put out fresh food, I havent effected anyone. My cell phone doesnt effect you either. However, If I smoke a cig at the next booth, you are going to breath in each single bit of the smoke.

THat being stated, I’ve had a smoking related cancer at 21, and then relapsed at 23 and on top of having life long reprocutions from the cancer treatment I have a life long addiction that I cant get in control of. I KNOW its aggrivating to have people rag you for smoking, but I WISH for all my heart people had nagged me more. I would GLADLY exchange my cancer treatment and I would gladly take back being able to have children even if it meant more nagging from people.
