Small cell lung cancer?

Author: admin

my mum was diagnosed with lung cancer in march she’s in the middle of having her cemo she has one more to go the doc has given her 9-12 mths now they have found blood clots on both her lungs the tumor is in the left she’s having injections daily for the blood clots what’s the next stage and what do i look for???

Answer:
The first thing is to resolve the blood clots - the “pulmonary emboli” - with the anticoagulant therapy she’s apparently receiving and then complete the planned cycles of combination chemotherapy. There may also be radiation therapy planned to the primary lung mass and the mediastinum. Your mother's physicians should be explaining the course of treatments planned so you know what to expect. Once she completes the treatments planned, she should be free to enjoy some quality time. That’s why she has been going through these difficult treatments in the first place.

I suspect you realize that physicians do not “give” time limits. We have the ability to only advocate possibilities based on experience with many similar patients. Your mom will have her own unique experience. She might have more or less than that “9-12 months.” We can't tell you exactly what one person will do. A major blood clot to the lungs or a severe pneumonia could cut time short. There’s no perfect way to predict the future in each special person's case.

Answer:
My husband had lung cancer. He went thru radiation chemo and gamma knife procedure. He also took a drug called tarceva ask the doc about it. It is costly but has had good results. Good luck to your mom.
