Okay, well I have been having migraines since i was in the 6th grade[I was about 11 years old] Usually they were associated with my menstrual cycle. So, I was put on an oral contraceptive to help reduce the migraines, and that helped. I was prescribed Maxalt to help with them when i was about 12. Now, i am almost 16 years old and my migraines are almost constant. The Maxalt will help for an hour or so, but after that the migraine comes back even worse. I’ve had a migraine that has been on and off for the past 3 weeks. I am not pregnant, I had a blood test when i went to the doctor's office a couple of weeks ago. When I get migraines, i will see flashing lights to the point that i cannot see anything in front of me. Occasionally i pass out or just black out. My mother is RN so she knows that there is something wrong besides just migraines. I’m going to a neurologist that specializes in pediatrics in about a week.
Now here's the question… What are the odds that i might have a brain tumor?
My mother has a pituitary tumor which is controlled with medication. The tumor was discovered when she was about 30 years old. She also has had migraines since she was pregnant with me, and she had a chronic headache syndrome in which she has to get a certain amount of sleep or she will have migraines. My paternal aunt had a form of brain cancer at the age of 40 but it was found extremely early and she was okay she had a stroke at the age of 45. My maternal grandfather died of a form of brain cancer at the age of 67. He’d several strokes before his death.
Both my mom and I are very scared. We have been waiting for over two months for the doctors appointment. The one we made was the absolute soonest one we could get. So, to repeat the question…
Is there really any chance of me having a brain tumor?
Or, what else could be wrong?
Thank You for Your Time
,Heidi
Answer:
Migraines are not usually associated with brain tumors. However, you’ve a very uncommon family history and it does appear that you’ve some kind of neurological problem. I can’t tell you what the chances are you could have or develop a brain tumor. Even if I was a doctor I don’t think it would be possible, but I do have a suggestion for you. People under 19 are nearly always best served at a children’s hospital, but I think you and your mother should think about at least getting a consultation from a doctor at Cedar’s Sinai in Los Angeles, his name is Keith Black. He is very talented and one of the top 5 neurosurgeons in the country. If you were my daughter this is who I would take you to.
Answer:
all i can state is don't stress out about getting a tumor, because it will just increase the mingrain! Reduce your salt intake if its a real mingrain that’ll help. But if its a tumor it won't do much
i sware just stay calm, if you find out you have a brian tumor continue to stay calm because it might not be cancerous.. or they will be able to cease it
also to me it doesn't sound like you’ve a brain tumor, but i might be mistaken. Because have you had an seizures? Are you dizzy when you’ve a minegrain? Do you sometime forget things, like everyone forgets things but idk you would know if it was different? if you answered yes too all these questions i would get it checked verry soon
also if the siezures started happening when you were 11, there’s more chance of you’ve a tumor!
best wishes and if you have a tumor just live life as normal as you can. Because getting mad isn't going to change anything
i hope it goes well!!!!!

Actually, I had a brain tumor that had been growing for years, till it got 6 cm. I had exactly one migraine on a wednesday and friday evening, I had my one and only seizure. I didn't have all the other symptoms people keep speaking about. Migraines run in my family in the females. I'm the only one that didn't have them.

Don't be too freaked out — almost EVERYONE who has brain cancer finds out not because of a headache, but because of a sudden seizure when they've never had something like that before in their lives. If you've been having migraines for that long, that also lessens the chance that it's a brain tumor; especially a malignant one (because if it was, it would have killed you long ago. They grow like mad). The memory problems sound more like they might be associated with the constant migraines, like you can't think straight because you're in pain or something. But definitely go ahead and get it checked out. You can't be too careful with this stuff, obviously.
Answer:
Signs and symptoms with a brain tumor are forgetfullness/confusion, dizziness, and having siezures. Usually if you’ve siezures and you've never had them before, that's usually a BIG sign you might have a tumor. But signs and symptoms are different depending on where the tumor is at. Good luck, I think it may just be migraines because flashing dots and stuff are normal with migraines. They'll probably prescribe some new meds and hopefully you'll be just fine.

My dad has primary brain cancer. He didn't know he’d it until he had a grand mal seizure. That's what gave it away with him. Now that the treatments stopped working and it has grown he has trouble speaking. he knows what he's thinking but can't get the right word out. I hope it all works out for you. You are in my prayers
