Should she be worried? She is 45 and a few weeks ago she had a breast exam and today she got a letter from a clinic saying that her latest exam showed some findings that may require more tests. It states that such findings are usually benign, but I cant help but be worried. Please let me know if this has happened to anyone you know or yourself. Thank you.
Answer:
This happens to my aunt each time she goes for a exam, but it turns out to be calcium deposits. If their is no family history of breast cancer it may be harmless but it is better to be safe than sorry. Good luck
Answer:
It's normal to be worried in such circumstances, but don't be overcome with fear. Most likely it's benign, just as the letter states. In fact, the majority of tumors that are discovered turn out to be benign. For example, my roommate's mother recently had an operation to remove a cantaloupe-sized tumor from her uterus. It turned out to be benign.
If you're really concerned you might want to have a conversation with your mother about it. Learn what her feelings/fears are.
Answer:
If this is her first mammogram, or the latest one she's had in a long time, I wouldn't be overly concerned. Generally, physicians compare mammo results to the last ones to see if there has been any change. If there is no basis for comparison, they are going to want to do more tests.
I know this is a very scary time for you and your mom, but the ideal thing to do is go with the tests. At her age they usually are just fibrous tissue and benign. Her physicians are doing a good job wanting her to follow up on it, and please urge your mother even if its nothing, to continue with regular breast exams and mammos so any future changes can be tracked.
I am a breast cancer survivor.

The same thing happened with my mom in law, it ended up being some sort of a cyst or something, she just got it removed. But yes you have the right to worry. Breast cancer is very common in women, the older you’re the high chance you’ve of getting it. We were worried like crazy and its natural to worry, its our way, our body's grieve, and we were fortunate to find out it was a cyst. Good luck and i wish your mom the ideal!
Answer:
Mammograms are not the most accurate tests. The only way to tell if she has cancer is to have the doctor sample the tissue (biopsy). Until then, I wouldn't worry too much. You're mom is scared right now, whether she shows it or not. Be supportive of her right now. Be sure she sees her doctor.
Ideal of luck.
Answer:
Please try not to get too worked up over it. I know I’m one that gets freaked out over stuff like this. They also found something in my mammogram years ago, and they did a biopsy, and it was okay. I was scared. Now I have thyroid cancer, but that’s very curable from what they’re telling me.
Answer:
Yes, this has happened to me, and I had to go again. Nothing was wrong. I hear this happening Alto, is a way I think it's just away of insurance getting more money.
Answer:
No when I was younger they found something on mine. It turned out to be nothing. You should be supportive and it is possible that she has cancer but it is very possible that it is nothing.
