I took her to the Emergency last Saturday she had been having a cough and then overnight she woke up saying her neck hurt, She had a lump on her neck! The E.R. doctor said she has tonsilitis and her lymph glands were swollen. they gave me antibiotics and told me to follow up with her pediatrician. I took her to her doctor and he said the same thing. He says it could take up to one month for it to go away! her neck bugs her. Could this be cancerous?? Im soo worried!! Anyone had this happen to their child??

Answer:
Usually cancerous lymphnodes arent painful. And they are rare. Relax, and just do what the doctors tell you. Swollen lymphnodes are very common, its your body's way of fighting infection. So, relax.

Answer:
Swollen lymph nodes are caused by an infection. You shouldn't be worried unless the nodes are still distended after a couple of weeks, then I'd advise you to go back to the doctor. Other than that, the lump is normal for swelling of the lymph nodes.

Answer:
Is it on the sides or directly in the middle?? My son when he was around 7 had a lump on this throat in the middle. I thought it was his adams apple.. my mom freaked and told me to take him to the doctor. It was a thyroidal cyst and was removed right away with minor surgury.. he's now 15 and doing great.. If it's not gone in a month take her to a different doctor.. If the lump is on the side of the throat it is most likely swollen glands… take care..

Answer:
She has been examined by 2 doctors. She has an infection. They did not pop out of the blue. I think I would trust 2 highly trained individuals who have actually seen her than some strangers on the web making guesses.

Answer:
A friend's son had an infection and he had several swollen glands. He had to have several rounds of different antibiotics to clear it up but since then he has been fine. It did take a while for the swelling to go down.
