My dad was just diagnosed with liver and colon cancer, he just got an operation and removed the colon cancer and he has liver cancer at the fourth stage. He’s going through chemotherapy right now and i was wondering what his life expectancy was going to be and what is the worst possible thing that could happen with the chemo, we are figuring he’ll be on it for roughly 4 months and then a major surgery and then chemo again for another 6months to make sure everything is gone… if all goes well.

Answer:
I don’t think your father has liver cancer, as it is far more likely that he only has colon cancer with mets to the liver. I am sorry, but in this situation the 5year survival rate is only about 5%. He is being treated with chemo to purchase him more time not to cure him. At this point the worst thing that can happen with the chemo is that it does not slow the progression of his disease. I have the feeling this is not what you expected to hear and I’m so very sorry.

Answer:
I agree with the registrar, your Dad likely has stage IV colon cancer with metastases to the liver. Survival without treatment is generally less than 6 months; with successful treatment, average survival is closer to 22 months. If he has resectable (surgically removable) liver lesions, then cure is not impossible. It does generally involve chemo followed by surgery and then usually more chemotherapy.

God bless, ideal wishes

Answer:
Iam sorry to say that the life expectancy is very short. There are complications of chemotherapy but they’re unimportant considering the graveness of the situation.

In the hands of a good doctor you can rely on the ideal

possible management.
