I was surfing youtube today and was apalled to find several videos that glorified smoking. One girl inparticular was showing viewers how to smoke and talked about how great it is and how you will become popular and other garbage. One thing she conveniently leaves out is lung cancer, emphasema, throat cancer, and other dangers. The sad thing is, she was 19 (although she looks about 40), so many young people will be influenced by her. I couldn't believe some of the comments. The majority were positive. For instance, "you look so sexy when you smoke," "you're so cool," etc. I mean, what aren't we doing as a society to wake people up to the dangers of smoking? After watching these videos, it's obvious that these kids either think the risks are just a big joke or don't know about the risks. The entire situation just sickens me.
Answer:
This is kind of a 2 part answer here since there are 2 things going on.
#1: As far as smoking goes it's not an actual risk thing, it's a "monkey-see-monkey-do" sort of thing. It also has been proven that smokers have lower IQs than non-smokers, I saw it about a year ago in the paper and I can't find any stories on it online so that proves that some people really will smoke just because their friends smoke or they see parents smoking at home. I don't think that they'll get the point until they develop those things and they're really not pretty.
#2: If you see anything like that on YouTube please report it, it'll get sent to the YTAs (YouTube administrators) and the average time for taking off a reported video is 3 minutes once you hit the send button (saw that report too a while ago but again no source). I thought that videos that were sent in were screened by admins and mods but I guess not but still even if you need to create an account for YouTube just make sure that someone on the site knows about it and it'll get taken off because unless the video was tagged as adult-oriented you never know the age of the people watching the video.

"entire situation just sickens me."
..
agreed. -_-
Answer:
Those people are just dumb. I just quit. The stigma associated with smoking along with all of the health concerns influenced me to quit.
Answer:
that behaviour is so digusting……..
you should make a video of a young girl like that and a someone with cancer and compare how "sexy" they look and post it on youtube.
and to think this is our future!!!!
wat a joke…..
Answer:
Hallelujah!! It has become so ignorant, and not in the "not knowing" way. They KNOW! It has been crammed down our throats for decades!! They just don't care. I'd like to add what a dirty and disgusting habit it is. Smokers stink, literally. They have gross fingers and yellow teeth. It has always pained me to see so many line up to get in line for a club that eventually dictates your lifes functions….But "they look so cool!!" Ack!
Answer:
I quit because of the dangers, its not easy, but I don't suppose lung cancer is easy either
