Every Physician I spoke with last year promoted the idea of Gardasil for young women. I had my 2 daughters vaccinated… A friend told me that women are dying from this should I continue or stop the 3 total injections! I've been a mom for 17 years and know that we have to sign our childrens lives away when getting other injections, so now I'm confused and don't know the right thing to do! Would love to get your opinion!!!
Answer:
Just as a FYI — the “deaths” that your friend was speaking about
are 4 (four) - one had a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in lungs), one had heart damage (from mycarditis), one had a regular blood clot and the last died from multi-system organ failure caused by the flu.
Of the two with clots - both were speaking oral birth control pills which has as a risk factor an increase risk of blood clots. The other two died from unrelated illnesses.
And for the person who posted the article - it said that cervical cancer wasn't a deadly or prelevant cancer in the US — the reason for that is that we push regular pap smears. However, there are over 11,000 new cervical cancer cases each year with 3,600 deaths (in 2007). So while the cancer rate seems low for our population, about a third of those diagnosed die. In addition, 70% of those cancers are caused by the HPV strains covered by the vaccine.
I have attached the vaccine report from the CDC that gives all the info about any and all HPV vaccine reported events. It gives info on all the pre and post licensure events (including the four deaths). http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/recs/acip/do…
If you’ve any questions about it, let me know.
Answer:
I’m a woman (ignore the screen name- it's my brother's old one) and I was given the choice to have the vaccine while in college when it first came out. People swore by it, but I’m studying in the medical field and know that there’s always risk- especially with new stuff like that which hasn't had a long enough test period on humans for me to prove that it is completely safe, so I didn’t get it. Also, from what I have heard, there was a very small test group of subjects that Merck tested the drug on in the first place, and the long-term effects of the drug are still unknown. Plus, it's one of the most high-priced drugs out there. I also feel strange about being injected with proteins from strains of the HPV virus.
That's why I didn't get it.
I would talk to a professional about whether your daughter should finish it or not.
Answer:
I wouldn't give my daughters the injections. No one knows the long term affects. I prevents SOME types of cervical cancer, not all. Cervical cancer is one of the slowest spreading and treatable types of cancer. The key is early detection through yearly pap smears.
Gardisil does not protect against any other types of cancer or against other types of STD's. We should educate our daughters about safe sex, not vaccinate them against one problem and have them think it's safe to be promiscuous…it isn't.

notice how the person supporting it is once again in the medical field?
All I know is that u must think about this, just because it is FDA approved doesnt mean anything. The idea of a vaccination is to inject a small amount of the disease in order to become immune to it.
Lets just state this might now work with cervical cancer as it spreads.
Please consider what you’re doing since its probabaly not your daughters decison!
best of luck
Answer:
Talk to yr Dr and make sure you get the facts about the vacc. The best thing to do is to make sure yr daughters understand that when they decide to become sexually active, they NEED to practice safe sex or don't have any at all. This is the ideal prevention of contracting the HPV virus.
Answer:
I BEGGED MY MOM TO LET ME GET IT AND SHE REFUSED BECAUSE SHE WASNT SURE ABOUT IT.
I am soooo glad!
Next time there is a new product that prevents things, u must wait at least 2 yrs before it comes out, because 2 years after the complaints begin.

Answer:
There are bad reactions to everything. The incidence of adverse reactions to Gardasil are pretty low. I would question the physician again on the risk involved and decide from there.
Answer:
Ther has actually been more then 4 deaths.
