I noticed a tiny flesh colored bump under my left breast a few weeks ago…I was in the shower and looked to see if it went away only to see it got a little larger…Could this be a sign of breast cancer or just a zit type deal? It isn't painful or anything but breast cancer runs in my family so I just wanna make sure it's nothing serious.

Answer:
I gather from your Q&A that you are quite young.

Breast cancer is mainly a disease of ageing; 80% of those diagnosed are over 50. Women in their 20s and 30s with breast cancer are considered young to have it, and account for only a very small percentage of those diagnosed.

Most breast lumps (even in women over 50) aren't cancerous. And many women have naturally lumpy breasts.

So the odds are in your favour. Nevertheless, it would be a good idea to see your doctor as any unexplained lump should be investigated. There can be several not so serious explanations for a lump in the breast - check with your physician.

By the way, breast cancer that 'runs in families' is much rarer than many people think. Only 5-10% of breast cancer cases are due to hereditary factors, the rest are random. With one in nine women developing breast cancer, it is not at all uncommon for more than one woman in the same family to develop non-hereditary breast cancer.

You are at significantly increased risk only if one of your parents - either one - carries one of the faulty genes responsible for breast cancer,in which case you would have a 50% chance of inheriting the gene and, if you did, a 50-80% chance of developing breast cancer.

It's also worth knowing that, as with any cancer, breast cancer that develops after the age of 50 is far less prone to be hereditary.

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer my oncologist was able to assure me that my cancer wasn’t hereditary and other members of my largely female family weren’t at risk.

Answer:
I've had a lump removed from my breast the same as you described, i went to the doctor and they sent me for an ultrasound and had a test on it was not cancerous but got larger felt like a marble and moved around and i wanted it removed. Have had no more trouble. Make an appointment with your physician, superior to get checked out.
