I wasn't there so I don't know what context the comment was made in … But assuming your teacher isn't a total insensitive jerk, he could be referring to the fact that many advertisers heavily use breast cancer as a marketing tool. I think it's very possible that in some marketing boardroom breast cancer is referred to as “sexy” because it can sell all kinds of different items. I'm sure you've seen pink ribbons emblazoned on everything from cookies to batteries to running shoes. The companies usually promise a “portion” of the proceeds to benefit breast cancer research, but a cynic would say they are just trying to sell more stuff and they only do this because breast cancer is a popular cause and they are trying to make the purchaser feel good about buying THEIR product. Fact is, they could be giving just one penny of total sales and could say they give a “portion.” Just try and compare how many products you've seen to help find a cure for “less popular” kinds of cancer — colon, skin, lung, blood — to how many products you see for breast cancer. Those other kinds of cancer are each bit as devastating and terrible as breast cancer. But since they aren't as popular, no one is selling packages of batteries with clear ribbons for lung cancer or violet ribbon emblazoned running shoes for Hodgkin's Disease or cookies with blue ribbons for prostate cancer.

I see nothing sexy about it and I see that a instructor saying that has tiny brains in my view. My mom, aunt and grandma has breast cancer and it's nothing to joke about or make fun of. It's serious. I am glad you are baffled by the sickness of someone saying that Good for you.
Answer:
My mother died at 39 with breast cancer….she didn't find anything sexy about it. My sister(and only sibling) is scared to death after having her mammogram each year…she doesn't find it sexy either. Your teacher is an ***.
