Breast Cancer question?

Author: admin

ok…my grandmother has fibrocystic breasts (no cancer), my mom has it and all of a sudden..my mom has breast cancer. My grandfather just told my mom that his sister has breast cancer.

I…right now have fibrocystic breasts & I'm 16.

so, does anyone know the chances?…I honestly dont know if there is a family history, cuz only one of my grandfather's sisters have it…now my mom has it. Any one have this kinda situation?

Whats a good thing to do in a time like this?…

thanx much!!

Answer:
At your age, the chance of breast cancer is extremely low. That a first degree relative has breast cancer (your mom) does increase your risk. You should begin yearly screening mammograms at age 40, or 5 years younger than when your mom was diagnosed, whichever is earlier.

There are a few risk calculators out there, but they are really meant for women over 20.

(over 35)

This first calculator gives you a percentage risk over the next ten years.

(over 20)

This second calculator is very complete, and asks a lot of questions about your family history, but only places your risk on a scale of low-average-moderately increased-greatly increased.
