50yr old male. had terrable urine infection last month and spent night in hospital. blood in urine etc. just went for ultrasound for kidneys and bladder and lump in lower right abdomen. from what i could see they took measurments on screen of what i do not know but they did call in a dr because they state i have a thicker than normal wall of my bladder. he stated that it would be up to someone else to decide if i would be recalled for another ultrasound to see if the measurements change or i might get a camera up my penis for a better look. any thoughts would be helpfull as i am quite worried. its more not knowing thats getting me down. thanks to all for taking the time to help. Jim.

You'll be fine, Jim…you might not be happy or very comfortable for a while, but ultimately you will be fine…
“Cancer” is a horrible word to hear, but if you have to have cancer, bladder cancer is the one to have; best case scenario, you'll have a TURB surgery (trans-urethral resection of the bladder), and they’ll remove the tumor without ever slicing an incision from the outside (ouch!). Worst case scenario, they'll have to slice you open and take out a kidney (you have a spare), and possibly even your bladder (they can make you a “new one” out of the last 8″ of your colon), but after a short course of post-surgical chemo- or immunotherapy you will be good as new.
You have quit smoking, right?
How did I know that?
Best wishes, dude!
Answer:
It's terrible waiting for results to come back and pending further tests. Try not to think the worst - it might not be cancer and could just be a bad infection. A friend's father had bladder cancer and was treated successfully and made a total and full recovery so if it is the worst case scenario, it can be treated. Make sure you ask lots of questions - take a notebook if necessary and make sure you get the results of the tests as soon as possible. Good luck - I hope all goes well.
Answer:
they always take measurements of the size of your bladder during an ultra sound. your bladder might be thickened due to inflammation from the infection. they might want to do a cystoscopy…a camera into your bladder and take a tiny biopsy. in the uk i think men can have this done under general anaesthetic unless there are any reasons you can't have an anaesthetic that is.

i concur absolutely about the not knowing and also the waiting - the thing is i have had a similar problem - they dont usually scan for 6-8 weeks after due to inflammation and soreness when you’ve had a uti. i would go back to my physicians and explain the problem and ask for hes opinion, i know its worring and frightening but there’s really not a lot you can do unless you see your physician and push for something to be done, they’re usually very good and will not want you to be anxious, explain and expalin your scared. hope all is well for you
